Meet the maker: Mad Cat Brewery

Here at The Light, we love supporting local businesses, especially when they’re as good as Mad Cat Brewery. You can find their Revolution pale ale on draught at our bar - try it with one of our burgers, you can thank us later!

Set up in 2012 by Sittingbourne father son duo Peter and Michael Meaney, Mad Cat brought some creative flair to a then up and coming craft ale industry with their delicious range of cask, keg and bottled options plus their unique and wonderfully wacky branding.

Peter said: “We realised that there was about to be a craft revolution in the beer industry, this offered the possibility of taking beer design to places not seen before - out with the stuffy and bland and in with the fun and tasty.

Based just up the road in Faversham on Brogdale farm, the brewery supplies pubs across the county and now deliver their real ale to homes across the country too.

Having just racked up their 500th brew, Mad Cat has produced 143,000 gallons of beer and Kent picked hops have helped them hit this milestone:

“Kent is one of the hops growing heartlands of the UK, and every year we have access to some of the greatest varieties ever developed.

“At harvest time we can get hops so fresh they can be picked and in our brews within 30 minutes. Ensuring the cleanest, freshest and most aromatic flavours."

Their fresh modern taste has made Mad Cat both a great starting point for craft ale novices as well as a firm favourite of connoisseurs too. With plans for an alcohol-free beer in the pipeline, we can’t wait to see Mad Cat grow and are so excited to work with them going forward.

“We're very excited about working with The Light. While we brew in Swale, the same borough as The Light, we actually live in the same town, Sittingbourne!

“As local people we've witnessed the project from its design stage infancy to the final reality of the new development in the heart of our own town centre, we can't wait to get in there and try it out for ourselves.”
